On Tuesday, December 19, the East Woods School Winter Concert brought joy and holiday cheer to teachers, parents, and families alike. The event featured remarkable performances by the school's talented students, showcasing their musical skills under the guidance of their dedicated teachers. The Chorus, led by the talented Margaret Corbett, and the Bands, under the direction of the skillful Alexander Prince, thrilled the audience with a delightful collection of tunes.
The Lower School Chorus started the concert with beautiful renditions of "Light a Candle" by Sally K. Albrecht and Jay Althouse, skillfully performed by the Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade Chorus. Adding a unique touch, the 7th Grade accompanied the young singers on the ukulele, creating a harmonious blend of voices and instruments. The festive atmosphere continued with the charming performance of "No School Tomorrow" by Jay Althouse.
Next up was the 3rd Grade Recorder Ensemble, showcasing their musical finesse with delightful pieces such as "Pizza Polka" by Ed Sueta, the classic "Hot Cross Buns," and a rendition of "Jingle Bells" by James S. Pierpont.
The 4th Grade Band took the stage with energy and enthusiasm, treating the audience to enthusiastic renditions of "Rolling Along," "Hot Cross Buns," and "Lightly Row." The Intermediate Band followed suit with a performance featuring "Chanukah: The Festival of Lights Overture" by David Bobrowitz and the engaging "Dreidel Adventure" by Scott Watson.
The Upper School Chorus continued to captivate the audience with their stirring renditions. Highlights included "Hot Chocolate" with a solo performance by the talented 7th Grade student Madison Murphy, the heartwarming Yiddish Folk Song "Tum Balalaika," and the lively "Cooroo, Cooroo" arranged by Steven Kupferschmid, accompanied by the talented 5th Grade student James Graham. The Select Choir added a unique twist with their performance of "Twelve Days of Christmas/Africa," arranged by Ilse-Renee Long, all while donning festive ugly Christmas sweaters for an extra touch of holiday spirit during their rendition of "Ugly Christmas Sweater" by Jill Gallina.
The Advanced Band brought the concert to a grand finale with a series of spirited performances, including the tropical vibes of "Caribbean Christmas" arranged by Gene Milford, the timeless "My Favorite Things" arranged by Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein II, and the lively "Santa's Workshop Samba" arranged by Bryce Newton.
The East Woods School Winter Concert showcased the students' musical talents and served as a heartwarming celebration of community and the holiday season. The teachers' dedication, the students' commitment, and the families' support all contributed to making this winter concert a truly memorable event.
